Making new friends and trying new foods is just the beginning of a foreign culture immersion. For most third year students in colleges around the country, a full time career and new responsibilities are quickly approaching. Although many may view a semester abroad simply as a leave of absence from the traditional undergraduate four-year degree, it is the personal development, the distant approach and the knowledge that makes such an experience meaningful and truly momentous.
Being abroad can be very overwhelming at times, but it is one of the few experiences in one’s life that allows freedom to focus on new opportunities or hobbies. Some may take on rock-climbing and others may attempt to trace his/her family’s heritage through travel and education. Whatever the experience may be, traveling abroad rewards personal development in character and beliefs that will make one more comfortable with change and more aware of the world.
A study abroad experience can open up career opportunities and foster life changing decisions. Studying abroad shows employers and graduate school admissions council’s alike that one is committed to their educational background and well suited with a unique, global perspective that many other candidates’ lack.
Fisher’s Undergraduate Office of Global Business offers opportunities to study abroad at accredited universities all around the world. If interested, attend an information session, speak to a global program manager and explore the global options to experience a semester you will never forget.

“I studied abroad to get the chance to learn about Europe, a place where I had never been before. Little did I know, the experiences I would have would be more than just learning about Europe. I have learned the culture behind many countries, the history behind unbelievable buildings, and have also had the chance to make memories of a lifetime. Studying abroad has given me the chance to take an unbelievable journey through Europe. As a business major, I have also learned a lot about the economy of different countries, which is really cool after learning about it at Ohio State. If you have the chance to study abroad take it because it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Study Abroad City: Florence, Italy
“Ever since I was in 7th grade, I have imagined myself in the position I am today. My cousin went abroad to Barcelona and came back with endless stories and a new outlook on the world. He has been bugging me ever since then to make sure I go abroad and now I am actually living the experience. Studying abroad has been unbelievable to me thus far, as I have learned many new things about the European culture. I am currently studying in Florence, Italy but have also traveled to Prague, Interlaken, Budapest and Amsterdam in just a month and a halves time. When do you think you’ll ever have the opportunity to travel Europe for 4 months straight while getting an education? The answer is most likely never and that’s why I encourage you to go abroad as well “.
